RAINBOW SNIPPETS DEC 26-27

First of all, wherever you are and however you celebrate [or not] this time of year, I hope your days and nights are filled with love, joy, hope and peace.

My Rainbow Snippet from Chapter 3 of Tawny, and here is the first glimpse Hal has of Tawny's dual aspect...

Tawny didn't move, the light didn't change, but suddenly a huge semitransparent form loomed behind the cat. It yawned, exposing fangs as long as his forearm, and familiar eyes the colour of citrine blinked lazily at him. Darker cinnamon markings outlined those eyes in a lyre mask. Its coat was a rich reddish gold, creamy on its throat and belly. Then the cat, tiny by comparison, disappeared, leaving only the now solidified image of its monstrous avatar. I am Tawny. Come, walk with me.

RAINBOW SNIPPETS DEC 19-20

It's Rainbow Snippets time again, and I'm continuing to work on editing the first draft of Tawny. I'll post a Snippet from each chapter – unedited, I hasten to add - over the next however many weeks.

The cover is by the uber-talented and Very Nice Person, Meredith Russell.

From Chapter Two:

No path led up to the ruin. Ignoring the ache behind his eyes, Gryff waded through wet bracken and heather, avoided the gorse bushes, and finally stood in front of the gaping hole where a door had once hung. Failing wards shimmered like strands of torn chiffon in his inner sight, and he brushed past them into a single room. It had been partially restored by weave-work, and recently abandoned. Blood pooled across the floor, still-sodden red rags lay in a pile, but of Morgan and Hilde, there were no signs. Whatever had happened here had occurred only a few hours ago. They'd probably met with resistance when they searched for Gronw's prison, which meant they were close to success.

Rainbow Snippets December 12-13

I've joined a new group on Facebook, Rainbow Snippets. Here's its Manifesto…

"Rainbow Snippets is a group for LGBTQ+ authors, readers, and bloggers to gather once a week to share six sentences from a work of fiction–a WIP or a finished work or even a 6-sentence book recommendation (no spoilers please!).

In this group you’ll find anything from romance and historical fiction to mystery and YA. The common thread is that every story’s main character identifies as LGBTQ+. The snippets could range from zero flames to full-on sexytimes, anything goes content-wise. The only rule is snippets will be 6 sentences long–one for each color in the Pride flag."

It sounds like a lot of fun, and a good place to help an author keep up momentum on a WiP, as well as tease potential readers.

So here are Six Sentences from my current WiP, Tawny, the second in my Melusine's Cats series.

From Chapter One:

Tawny was there most mornings, peering at him from the foot of the bed or the windowsill. Often, if Hal woke in the night, the cat would be a quietly purring presence in the darkness.

He found it oddly comforting. Especially when the dreams began to get really weird and unusually easy to remember in the mornings. Even more strange was the number of times Tawny featured in them. Hal had the starring role in the nightly action-adventure entertainment, along with the strangely transformed cat, but there was an empty space there as well.

I am feeling particularly chuffed today - my Undercover Blues, released by Manifold Press, has been placed third in Elisa's Rainbow Awards 2015, in the Gay Historical Romance category.

Huge congrats to all the winners, and especially my fellow Manifold Press authors!
