RAINBOW SNIPPETS - March 26-27

For more tantalising snippets from a whole host of authors, see the Rainbow Snippets Facebook group, you won't regret it. There are Snippets to suit every reader.

First of all, I owe everyone sincere thanks for reading and commenting on my Snippets of Tawny over the last fifteen weeks.  I haven't been as good at replying to the comments here or on the Rainbow Snippets Facebook page as I should be. But I am grateful, I promise you.

Now, though, I'm in a bit of a quandary. Where do I go next? I've made a start on the next in the Melusine's Cats - Pyewacket. But Two other WiPs have to take precedence at the moment. I'm only three chapters in on both Coins Not Accepted [working title] and Winter's Hunt, but Snippets from either of those will gain me some time...

Okay, so here goes with rather more than six lines from Coins - Miles has received mysterious instructions from his grandfather, and they've taken him and his younger brother and sister to a safe deposit box in a bank vault, and a letter...

He cleared his throat and began to read aloud. "'Dear Miles - '"

"If it starts with, 'if you're reading this, then I'm dead,' I think I'll scream," Mary interrupted.

"Shut. Up. 'Dear Miles, I wish I could have had the opportunity to tell you everything in person, sitting in the comfort of my study sharing some excellent whisky. But Time moves at her own pace and we cannot control her. If you recall, the meaning of your name - our name - is Soldier, and that is what we are called upon to be. We guard the Edge, one of the few fords still open in England. This duty is a proud heritage, and despite Cynthia's insistence that you remain ignorant of the Westermans' sacred trust, I hope that you will take up the mantle. I am aware of your nature, so it is unlikely that you will be able to pass this on to your own offspring - "

"Huh," John said. "Assuming, much. Hadn't he heard of surrogacy?"

RAINBOW SNIPPETS - March 19-20

I've reached the final chapter of Tawny. Between now and next weekend, I'll wrack my brain cell for something else to inflict on my readers in forthcoming sessions of Snippets.

Here's my Snippet from Tawny, Chapter 15:

Melusine's arctic chill melted in a smile as warm as a summer day. "Good," she said. "I hoped you'd say that." Without warning, a fiery spear appeared in her hand and she flung it at him, too swift for him to dodge. Hal's yell of protest rang in his ears, and then the fire struck him. It exploded on his abdomen in an agonising replay of that distant conflict. The force of it lifted him from his feet and hurled him into darkness.

RAINBOW SNIPPETS March 12-13

For more tantalising snippets from a whole host of authors, see the Rainbow Snippets Facebook group, you won't regret it. There's Snippets to suit every reader.

Strewth, doesn't time fly! It's the weekend again, and I am woefully behind, as usual. One day I will get my life in order, though to be honest, I've been muttering that for the last umpteen years... *G*

Here's my penultimate Snippet from Tawny, Chapter 14:

Sulis drew the tapestry over the Mirror, and when Hal came back to himself he was weak at the knees and dizzy. "Now you must make your own choices. Hallan, you have seen far too much of the Here, so I will give you three choices. You can have the memories of everything and everyone of the Here that you've met, and all that you've experienced, taken from you, including Tawny. I will either send you far away from the Lynn valley to live your life in peace, or you can choose to remain there but no longer a part of what will be. Or you can leave here with all your memories intact and decide your own path."

RAINBOW SNIPPETS - March 5-6

I developed a bad back yesterday, and it's still plaguing me today. Oh, well... the joys of aging...

Anyhow, forget my complaining, here's my Snippet from Tawny, Chapter 12:

Ahead of them the road curved off to the left, and a narrow trail led away to the right, disappearing into the forest. At Gryff's shout, they swung onto the track, and plunged through undergrowth and overhanging trees that tugged at their hair and clothes. Hal did his best to flatten himself to Fire's neck, partially blinded by her flying mane. Desperately he hoped that Gryff or his geas knew where the hell they were going, because his legs felt as if they were trying to rip themselves from his hip sockets. And the least said about his bruised balls, the better. He might never walk again.
